Reserve Deputies are well-trained volunteers with virtually the same powers of the regular sworn members of the Sheriff's Office.  They undergo the same rigorous screening and background investigation process as regular deputies. They must pass the same physical and psychological requirements.  They must train with the same intensity and go through a similar initial training program, including being assigned to a field training officer.

Reserve Deputies help the Sheriff conserve the peace by donating their time to augment the services provided by the regular force.  They help by transporting custody arrests to the jail, serving civil papers and providing security at various events.

These volunteers donate their time and raise their own funds for their equipment, including cars, uniforms and tools of the trade.  We rely on the good will of many sponsors and corporate partners to make this possible.  To find out more about our reserve program, or to find out how to donate to the reserve program, please go here, or contact Sgt. Dustin Hald at the Sheriff's Office (503-366-4611).
