The Columbia County Sheriff's Office has a suspect in custody from the October 9 incident wherein an off-duty federal police officer fired at (and hit) an intruder.

Robert C. Clement, 38, (last known address in Gresham), is in custody in the Columbia County Jail on an unrelated warrant.  Investigators are requesting citizen help in identifying additional burglaries that might have been committed by Clement and a suspected accomplice, Jodi L. Hill, 34, (also last known address in Gresham).  Hill is in custody on an unrelated warrant in Multnomah County.

Clement is suffering from a gunshot wound to his left shoulder that investigators believe he sustained on the night he was confronted by the off-duty officer at the officer's home in Warren.  The injury is non-life threatening.  He was treated and released from Emanuel Hospital last night.

Of interest to investigators is any information citizens might have in regard to either of the two suspects, or the vehicle seized (see photos) from their arrest in Portland yesterday evening.

The vehicle is a black, 1998 Nissan Sentra 4-door, bearing Oregon License ZWH337.

The Multnomah County Warrant Strike Team, acting on an anonymous tip, located the suspects in a Troutdale Motel 6 yesterday during the noon hour.  The strike team notified the sheriff's office that they were en route to the location.

"We obtained assistance from the Columbia County Major Crimes Team and took custody of Mr. Clement in Portland," said Sheriff Jeff Dickerson. "We are asking citizens for their help in identifying either the car or the suspects in regard to the numerous unsolved burglaries we are working in our county."

Anyone with any information to help in this investigation may contact Detective David Peabody at the Sheriff's Office: (503) 366-4611 ext. 4609.
