Crown Zellerbach Trail StudyColumbia County is implementing a project to prepare a 'Concept Plan' for a public trail corridor between the cities of Scappoose and Vernonia along the former Crown Zellerbach Logging Road. The Study will result in a plan that will describe the community vision for the trail. An Advisory Committee has been formed to help guide the process and technical planning assistance has been provided by the Rivers, Trails, and Conservation Assistance program of the National Park Service. The trail plan will reflect the communities vision for the trail. Initial ideas include: a bicycle, pedestrian and equestrian pathway stretching from Chapman Landing on Multnomah Channel in Scappoose, to the edge of the City of Vernonia, connecting to the Banks-Vernonia Linear Trail. The planning process will address development of the proposed trail route, as well as trail guidelines, safety, good neighbor policies, operations and maintenance, interpretation and education concepts, and the identification of future funding opportunities.
