A GIS is a computer system capable of capturing, storing, analyzing, and displaying geographically referenced information; that is, data identified according to location. Practitioners also define a GIS as including the procedures, operating personnel, and spatial data that go into the system. The County Cartography Section within the County Assessor’s Office maintains GIS data on such items as the county road system, school district boundaries, zoning, city limits, urban growth boundaries, floodplains, greenways, and many others. The data within the GIS layers is continually growing as the user base grows and the need for additional information is identified.. Contact the persons listed above for more information on what GIS information is available and how to obtain it.

The County is planning to provide additional web based GIS map information layers to the Assessor's Tax Parcel Information System in the near future.
