2011 changes to the Property Tax Deferral Program

The poor economy and weak housing market forced the 2011 Oregon Legislature to make many changes to the property tax deferral program.

These changes affect deferred property taxes the state pays beginning in November 2011.

For questions regarding the changes, please see the FAQ's.

To determine if you might be eligible, download the program criteria.

For additional information, please see the Department of Revenue’s website at http://www.oregon.gov/DOR/SCD/index.shtml.

Veterans

If you are a disabled veteran or the surviving spouse of a veteran, you may be entitled to the Veteran's Property Tax Exemption offered by the State of Oregon. To be eligible: (1) you must be a disabled veteran with a 40% disability documented with the Department of Veteran Affairs, discharged honorably or be the surviving spouse remaining unmarried of an honorably discharged veteran, and (2) the applicant must own and live on the property. If you meet the above criteria, you would receive a $ 9,290 tax exemption off of your assessed value for 2001-2002 tax year (this dollar amount increases by 3% each year). If you meet the above criteria and the veteran was disabled in active military service, the exemption base amount would be $12,380 for the 2001-2002 tax year with the 3% increase each year.

You as a tax payer would apply at our County Assessors office after January 1 and before April 1 to be approved for the following tax year.
